Members of our association participated in an event on EU defense policy
organized by the Foreign Policy Institute (UPI) and the European
Commission’s representative office in Finland.

The Finnish Association of Foreign Correspondents announced a petition
for the safety of journalists while reporting on the war in Ukraine

A visit to CMI.
CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, is a Finnish non-profit conflict
resolution organization that prevents and resolves violent conflicts.

Visit to Finnfund.
Finnfund is a state-owned impact investor and development financier
that builds a more sustainable future and creates lasting effects by
investing in companies that solve global development challenges.

Visits and events of the Association of Foreign Journalists in 2021:

25.11.
A visit to the Supo, Finnish Security and Intelligence Service, on the topic
of e.g. The situation in Afghanistan.

11.11.
Visit to the residence of the ambassador of Morocco in Finland, along
with a Moroccan dinner. Ambassador H.E. Mohamed Achgalou and
Embassy Secretary Salma Ait Belhadj offered interesting perspectives on
the current state, history and culture of Morocco and North Africa, as well
as the relations between Finland and Morocco.

Teams meeting with the President of the Republic of Finland Sauli
Niinistö.

16.6.
Members of the association participated in the briefing session of the
embassy of Romania and The Atlantic Council of Finland (ACF) regarding
recent NATO- summit.

March
23.3.
The Association of Foreign Journalists was a guest of the Tunisian
ambassador at the Teams-meeting.
Ambassador of Tunisia Ms. Sarra Chaouani Abidi told about her country’s
democratization development after the revolution, ten years ago.

February
9.2.
The new board of foreign journalists met for the first time.

January
26.1.
The association elected a new board at its annual meeting.
Pekka Virolainen was elected as the new chairman and Silja Raunio as vice
chairman
In addition to the above, Jyrki Saarikoski, Mika Horelli and Janne Hopsu
will continue on the board for another year. Juho Takkunen and Sanna
Raita-aho will be left out.
Journalists Minna Pye and Noora Kettunen were elected to the board as
new members.
In addition, the board decided to change the association’s rules in
accordance with what was discussed at the association’s meeting on
December 9, 2020. The new rules can be found later on the website.
The outgoing government is thankful for the past exceptional year.
Hopefully at some point this year we will be able to organize live
meetings again.
